Francesco Serti studied economics, management and political science at the University of Florence (Italy), the University Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy). During his studies, he also worked at the ICE-Barcelona (Italian Institute for Foreign Commerce in Spain) as a consultant and as a Microeconomics and Labor Economics Professor at the University of Florence. After receiving his PhD in Economics and Management from the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, he worked for several years as an Assistant Professor in Economics at the University of Alicante, where he taught Econometrics, Statistics and International Trade, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. Subsequently, he started his current job as an Associate Professor in Economics at the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca (Italy), where he is teaching Applied Econometrics, Policy Evaluation Methods and Data Science.

Francesco's research encompasses various aspects of economics, including labor, health, international trade, regional, and industrial economics as well as regulatory and competition economics. He has handled large administrative datasets and surveys, employing cutting-edge microeconometric techniques. His recent research is on machine learning techniques for prediction and causal analysis, with a particular focus on studying treatment effect heterogeneity. His multidisciplinary approach adds a unique perspective to his research that has appeared in leading international journals such as the European Economic Review, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Canadian Journal of Economics, Social Science and Medicine, Regional Studies, Social Networks, Review of World Economics, and The World Economy.

He is a native Italian speaker, fluent in English and Spanish, and has basic German and Catalan knowledge.
